Travelling gluten-free in France

By Don Lyons

Some time ago, I was seeking info on celiac eating in France. You were instrumental in me getting responses from a number of people, particularly from various Chapters.  A big thank you Marie!

I did get some very helpful info, and will send in a report after our return in mid-October. In the interim, a couple of very useful items from what I’ve already learned:

  1. A Dr. Scharr, GF products manufacturer, apparently has very good products under the “Schar” brand, and 8,000 shops worldwide carry them. (Note web spelling is different) www.schaer.com
  2. The French celiac assn. is Association Francaise Des Intolerants Au Gluten (AFDIAG), 15 rue d’hauteville – 75010 Paris, France e-mail: afdiag@yahoo.fr Website www.afdiag.org
  3. Best sources for GF foods in France are natural food stores (magasin bio, or magasin biologique)

There is a huge natural foods store not too far south of the Seine River’s Ile de Cite and Ile St. Louis, called Dietetique Mouffetard www.dietetiquemouffetare.fr located at 96 rue mouffetard (between Metro stns. Place Monge and Censier-Daubenton) They have parking, and speak French, English, Italian, German. I plan to shop there the day we arrive!
