As a consequence of Dr. Bedeir’s finding (in the largest series of young patients with collagenous colitis ever reported), it would seem appropriate to recommend that women age 40 or younger who have a diagnosis of collagenous colitis also undergo an EGD with duodenal biopsies to exclude concurrent celiac disease.
