Jim’s Place offers gluten-free pizza in Vernon!

By John Green

Jim's Place Exterior

I am with Jims’ Place in Vernon. We started a couple of weeks ago, and the response has been quite positive.

We started by just advertising on a sign on the side of our restaurant. People noticed it from the highway, and came in to inquire. Since then we have had several repeat customers from up and down the valley, from Salmon Arm to west Kelowna. The reviews have been good, and we are encouraged to provide more product.

What we provide is a 12 inch gluten-free crust (rice based) that is made for us by Valarosa in Kelowna. They also provide us with a triple strained tomato pizza sauce that is made in Italy, absolutely nothing but tomatoes, no dyes or preservatives. It is called Casar.

We have also been in touch with a lady in Salmon Arm who is willing to provide us with a deep dish crust that will be available to us within the next little while. Our gluten-free toppings include all fresh veggies, tomatoes, green peppers, onions, sun dried tomatoes, pineapple, mushrooms, olives, banana peppers, jalapenos and new grilled vegetables such as eggplant and yellow peppers.

We have fresh grilled chicken, sirloin and a gluten-free 100% lean ground beef, all made off premises. Freybe sausage in Vancouver is supplying us with sliced pepperettes, cervalet salami and capicolla ham, all gluten-free of course.

We cook the gluten-free on its own pans, in its own oven, cut on their own cutting board with a special knife. The pizza paddle is even exclusive to gluten-free product only.

The greatest of care is taken so no chance of cross contamination. We pride ourselves in that. The pizza is then placed in the box with a wax paper insert on the bottom. The feedback has been very positive. We are now connected to Facebook thru our website.

Our website is www.jimsplacepizza.com The site is very comprehensive and easy to navigate.

We have worked diligently to try to satisfy a need for a gluten-free product in Vernon. We feel we have done our homework and we are confident we have a good product.

The pricing is $16.95 for a 12 in pizza, cut into 8 slices. It is more than a conventional 12 inch but as you probably know the cost is quite substantially more when buying gluten-free ingredients.

Jim’s Place is located at 1600 32nd Avenue [Highway 97] just across up the hill from the hospital. You can call them at
250-549-3700.
